ABOUT

Danielle D. North

North is a wife, mother of three, long-distance runner, children’s book author and founder. North is a first-generation college graduate and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Central Michigan University. North is a cradle to career education and strategic consultant and specializes in driving ideas from paper to process to implementation. 

North has over 15 years of experience managing, authorizing, and supporting charter schools and their stakeholders. Awarded her first charter via a coalition-led project in 2011 on Detroit’s eastside. North has held positions as the Deputy Director of the Detroit Public Schools Charter School Office, Vice President of Board and Community Relations for Promise Schools, School Consultant for Grand Valley State University, and consultant for a host of other schools and their stakeholders.

As a visionary and strategist, North has successfully founded several educational initiatives for children and adults: Kidz Kingdom, Detroit’s first indoor playground, which is also a licensed childcare center, Biz Kidz a summer enrichment program focused on career and entrepreneurship development. Degree Forward, a college completion nonprofit for working professionals and adults, Black Male Achievement Initiative, promoting higher graduation and college completion rates, and Dream Studio Detroit, an educational complex dedicated to education, career and entrepreneurial resources for families.

North has received many awards and honors for her advocacy and commitment to children, women, diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is a proud 2012 alumni of the prestigious German Marshall Memorial Fellowship; a 2018 Race Relations & Diversity Taskforce, Diversity Champion; a 2019, Detroit Free Press, Shining Light Mayor Dave Bing Future Leader Awardee and in 2021, North was awarded the honor and distinction of Crain’s 40 under 40. North is a Kresge Thrive Leader Alumna, founding board member of MBBA and former Vice President of the board, and fund development board member of Black Leaders Detroit.
